Paul Smyth made 62 league appearances for us, so just over 30 a season on average. He was an player who could break down at any minute and had to be managed, and he did alright for us. Looking back at his first season with us, I don’t think he was any more effective than Graham was last year. Hopefully Graham can match his 2nd season too.

Paul Smyth first season was stop start definitely marred by injury. Second season was far more injury free and by a mile our best forward. A completely different type of forward to Graham and more of a goal scoring type of forward, whereas Graham is an out and out winger.

Jordan Graham has a far better delivery and crosses better than Paul Smythe did.Paul was tackled viciously at time as Jordan will be.Would be great to have the two fully fit all season, but Paul has gone and Jordan is injured. How many goals did Smythe score in his last season.

I was excited when Smyth first signed for us. Excited when Graham signed too. If both were fit and available Graham would be my choice. Alas right now neither are options for different reasons. Not overly confident we will get much mileage out of Graham early on. Impact sub at best. Certainly I was hoping for a lot more, I’m sure Graham was too. With Theo out and Graham limited we are short of options even before a ball has been kicked. Simpson and Moncur too will probably not be fully fit. Not an ideal start. But it is what it is and providing no more injuries happen we will be competitive. We shall see.

Paul Smyth has gone, unfortunately. He was exciting and an excellent player for sixty plus minutes, fading. But that was league two. Graham showed brilliance on the wing and fantastic crossing ability, but so little to see. Ideally we'd have a player the same as either of these (just one) who can do either (not both) and stay fit. I suspect that would cost money. And would he fit with the Wellens scheme of things?

The biggest concern to me about Graham was Wellens saying in his interview that Graham’s injury has to be managed because “ he could break down at any time” . That doesn’t sound too promising if the O’s are trying to get in the region of 40 appearances out him this season! I think that comment or hope that comment was more aimed at not pushing him too hard in the rehab stage of this particular injury.

Moncur problem is mainly down to him not getting to the fitness level Wellins requires from his midfield players. Theo will be out for somewhere at least till around Christmas at the earliest and who knows how the season will pan out for Jordan Graham injury wise.

Moncurs battle to get to fitness, is Galbraith or Obiero's chance to make the No10 role their own. Moncur impact sub at best from now on I reckin.
Graham, ease him back in gently and hopefully we'll see the best of him from 8 games or so in.

Hope you are right Thor, you often show wise judgement.Last seasons injuries were spiteful, probably the reason we talk so much about them.
