The disappointing thing for me though was Hemmings went straight down the tunnel at full time and didn't acknowledge the fans. I doubt anyone would have given him pelters, but for me he had to man up to the errors and show he's made of In fairness, Hemming certainly acknowledged the fans in the South Stand at the end of the game I can assure you.

No one seems to have mentioned the total absence of George Moncur from the match day squad. He can’t be fit enough yet and I’m talking to the standard that Richie wants. The shame is we needed him yesterday as we lacked an ability to keep and rotate the ball well enough in the final third. It’s up to him now, does he want it enough? I hope he does. Clutching at straws imho. RW has decided to move on.

Nice to see some positives from a bad result; shows what a tolerant and thoughtful forum this is. Seems like Kelman, Brown, Obiero, Happe, Sweeney came good, the latter for his usual 60 minutes. Last season, if I remember rightly, Sol had a sticky start and it took a little while for things to settle at the back. Two massive games to come. Lose both and the jitters might set in. But there are other teams in this league for whom every game is a cup final. The down side is the continuation of the same problems which rattled last year; not enough cracks on goal (where was Agjei?), control in midfield (where was Warrington?) and the continuing saga of Beckles being too casual. Points lost yesterday.

I won't criticise a player based on one performance.
Kelman over Sotiriou every day of the week, but from what I can see we still need that DM and a left back.

I hope your not as we lack quality in midfield at present and he can make a difference, maybe he’s been given a last chance as we don’t have or seem to want to bring in quality which costs money.

My dogs woke me up at 2.30am the foxes must have been outside. So I went on St Miriam’s fans forum to see what they had to say about Hemings. The consensus was he is a good keeper, one the fans wanted to sign permanently, he is prone to the odd howler and can sometimes flap at crosses, although as he season progressed he got better. His kicking is not good and he goes long far too often, although that might be a managers decision rather than the keepers. Referring back to the howlers they also say he makes far more good saves than bad, his shot stopping is good.
The fans say the only reason they didn’t sign him was that Boro wanted a six figure fee for him.

Galbraith , O’ Neil and Oberio obviously have talent but were simply outmuscled at critical times and Oberio in particular went into his shell. As you say, only one game and in isolation one shouldn’t read too much into it but there seem to be a number of the same “ fault lines” in the team from last season and the Charlton game next Saturday should start to give us a clearer picture.

I actually thought Sweeney did better defensively than I’ve seen from him for a while, he won lots of headers which he never has before, but it came at the expense of zero attacking threat. The full back positions were always going to be an area we needed to sort out in the summer, and unfortunately it looks like we’ve somehow managed to go backwards in that department.

I liked the new right back he seems composed and pacy. Unfortunately I don't want to be negative about an academy product but sweeney is limited. Hopefully both the keeper and Warrington will grow and improve as they settle, we miss Graham massively it goes without saying

Not sure we’ve “ managed to go backwards” unless you’re judging Clare to be less effective than Rob Hunt after a single game? Sweeney remains imho a back up full back - inferior to James for example in most aspects - and a better LB is badly needed.

Exactly this, he went backwards when he got tired, that’s when his mistakes started. We have to stay with him and build him up, dumping him won’t be good for his long term development.

Had a sleep and on reflection I feel Bolton can consider themselves lucky to have the three points.
No idea where the highlights are showing these days but from memory we've gifted them two goals. We've scored, hit the bar, and had the majority of play and chances, they missed a sitter.
Should have been a draw.
Opinions on here of Kelman are strange.. at the game he looked really good so to read on here that he wasn't is odd.
Thought that Happe, Kelman, Obiero played really well. Maybe Sweeney too.
Clare, Brown, Omar, Galbraith, O'Neill looked rusty and were going through the motions.
Agyei didn't look on his game but it really was a big ask of him playing on his own against that beast. He won the battle in the last game and lost the battle in this game.
Things are shaping up ok, I think in midfield we need a bit more of a plan, but we have Warrington and Pratley to be considered in there as well.
To sum things up.. we did ok. Looked a bit rusty. It'll take 6 games I think before we see a bit of a pattern.
We've been dealt a difficult start and I doubt we'll get much out of Charlton next week. In fact I think Charlton may spank us for 3 or 4.
But our season will spark when we enter September.

Worked yesterday for his goal
