Southend United are delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder George Moncur on a season-long loan from Leyton Orient. Moncur has played well over 300 games in the EFL and joins the Club following two strong seasons at Orient. Upon signing, he said: “I can’t wait to meet the boys, help them out as much as I can and get some goals and some wins.

A very talented midfield player and to me it seems like his way of playing did not fit into the non stop running till you drop style that Richie expects of his front 6 players.
Quite expect that he will inspire Southend to some very good results in the season ahead.

Liked him, but he didn’t do enough last season to see him as a first pick in a Wellens side. More room for Obiero to make his mark. So interesting to see who we now bring in to strengthen midfield.

Zach is going to be a quality player.
We need a big strong midfielder, but I don't see that happening. We need an established centre forward and I don't see that happening either. Unfortunately.
If Idris had played the last two games we'd have 6 points now. He is so badly missed, but when you analyse it with a clear head, we are actually not that far away, but far enough to not be a contender.

I understand the 24/25 season is GM's final year of his O's contract and so, if he isn't recalled, it's the last we see of him. I trust RW choices and if he wants GM out then it's best it's happened. Personally, I didn't rate what I saw of GM. He certainly wasn't contributing to what his contract should warrant. I was watching the Charlton game, in particular the second half, and I couldn't image GM contributing anything at all. Maybe I'm in the minority but I'm pleased his gone, for our club and for him. Now, I'll be interested to see what his contributes to Southend and how much game time he plays. To add, it wasn't a secret we were trying to offload him, so why didn't other L1 or L2 teams try to sign him, at a discounted loan rate, if he was good enough for those leagues? (Granted, he may have wanted to stay local and Southend were a limited option)

I'm not gutted that he has gone. Whatever the reasons for his being out of favour with us it's a fact that he is. We would never know whether he would it around and become a regular again, but the fact is that we can't afford to wait.

Wonder how much we are paying of his wages 50-50? Lingy should insist on a pre season friendly next year at rats hole and us keep the takings!

George isn't the right "type". I don't know if this relevant but if you were under fire in a fox hole, who would be the last Orient player you'd like in there with you?

Probably the one telling me if I get shot through the brains it's all part of our lord and saviour Jesus Christ's plan. I liked the guy and he certainly had his moments but there was never a point at which he justified being our top earner.

I have fond memories of George, in particular the goal he scored at Oxford last season. At his best he was a star turn, but we saw that too rarely and in the end he simply had no place in the squad.
It's easy to wish him all the best for the future. He seems to be a much liked man, as well as a telented footballer. Won't upset me at all if he leads Southend to great things, but I suspect fitness issues will continue to hamper him there too.
