Just seen this. Not happy. We are not that well endowed with quality in midfield that we can let someone like him just go. Are we really trying to screw up this season? I am assuming we can expect incoming to mitigate his loss. But then again. Him gone, Prats part time. Our midfield looks drastically weak. Ling needs to work overtime to bring experience in. Clucking bell. The wagon wheel has lost a few spokes, will it survive the bumps to come. 😡😡😡 You would have to imagine that GM’s departure has been planned for and on the cards for the last month so, hopefully, the “ committee” have been eyeing up replacements and are now in a position to act. Let’s hope so anyway!😆👍 Er... we already signed his replacement a few days ago.

Shrimpers got just shy of 7,000 in tonight. Not shabby at all.

Wonder how much we are paying of his wages 50-50? Lingy should insist on a pre season friendly next year at rats hole and us keep the takings! Could ask the same about Pigott..Money for nothing I'm just glad we got rid of both of them and that bloody awful song GM was banging out at us

I wish George well- a 'character' of the game- but always found him slightly frustrating to watch, even before his illness. Will remember him shuttling backwards and forwards across the six yard box with the ball at his feet, never quite managing to get in a shot or make the decisive pass.
Wish him all the best though and I think with the extra time he will get in the National League, he will do well.
Hopefully frees up some money for that defensive midfielder I am still waiting for.

Given that - according to Moncur himself- the club “ is going in a different direction” I would suspect that we will not sign a like for like replacement for GM. I take your point in respect of Donley however.

Southend have always been a well supported club.Wonder how this season will unfold for them not so many big spenders to cope with.

He's an incredible signing for their level tbf, especially if we're picking up half the tab. Decent enough L1 player. I think it's probably a good move for all involved but wouldn't be that surprised if we have regrets come Christmas.

I so hope we're wrong but I just can't see Donley being the replacement. Surely we want somebody who is more physical and hold the ball up to release Kelman/Agyei or the wide players Donley would be more of an alternative to Galbraith? Although I though he would play wider or further forward... could easily be wrong though
