Very sad to report the death of Oโs great Mal Lucas who has died aged 85. He helped to form a great โ half back line โ with fellow Welshman Cyril Lea and the inimitable Sid Bishop during Oโs promotion winning season of 1961/62. RIP Mal. View AttachmentI believe Mal Lucas and Cyril Lea were the half backs for Wales back in the day.God bless Mal Lucas as you join so many of that wonderful Leyton Orient team in football heaven.Thank you all for our time in the sun.

I last saw him play in 1979 at Valentine's Park, Ilford. By then he had moved to Glamorgan and was past his best, and got tonked all over the park by Messrs Gooch and McEwan as Essex won by 9 wickets in a match reduced to one innings per side, the first two days having been rained off.

Although never highly regarded as a batsman, Hobbs once scored a century for Essex in under 45 minutes against the Australian tourists in 1975! ๐

We must have been there together.Always rained in Ilford week.I remember one cold dull grey day, freezing and a sore bum sitting on those tiered planks of wood. The sun came out at about 5pm,the crowd gave a mocking cheer and it went away for the rest of the day.The cricket ground looks so small now when I pass it.Would love to have I llford week back again, preferably when it is warmer.

Best innings I ever saw there was by Mark Waugh, 2nd Inns vs Middlesex in 1992. He seemed to have so much time to play, as if he knew in advance what was in the bowler's mind! A truly class act. Oh, and we won the match!

The last of the dambusters has passed away. Wing Commander John Bell was one week short of his 101st birthday.
You served your country in its hour of darkness and prevailed. May you rest in peace, we the people left behind have a lot to be thankful to people like yourself.

Brave in the extreme and highly skilled. RIP to all of them.

Peter Bennett ex Orient during our glory years and FA cup semi final side, aged 77. the main site isn't reporting this. He was a player who I've seen play as I was around in what i consider the best team to have played for the club in my lifetime. A good player, fully committed is what I recall, rest in peace to a true O.

Peter Bennett ex Orient during our glory years and FA cup semi final side, aged 77. So sorry to hear this news. I had the great pleasure of being at the Oโs as an associate schoolboy when โLes โ Bennett arrived from West Ham. Always had a kind word for us kids and even though heโd played alongside the likes of Moore, Hurst and Jimmy Greaves at the Hammers absolutely no side to him at all. Terrific servant for the Oโs, tough as nails and talented enough to play a variety of positions at a very high level. RIP Peter - you played a blinder!
