My knee injury is getting better. First felt pain on 21st December, didn't move much in-between then and the 21st January when I literally walked 50 yards round the block. Next day, lap of the little park. Day after made it to the shop. Bit of rest, little walk in the snow yesterday. Today I hit my 8,000 steps target. Slowly getting there. Are you managing any spinning yet? Or is that put on hold until the knee improves.

No the bike isn't due until about the 6th February which suits me fine.
Up until then I'll just increase my walking.

On 209 miles Turbo Trainer and 247 Miles Cycle Commuting = 456 Miles Total…44 Miles needed.
Just done a 30-min session making a total of 56 minutes today…
One cycle commute left 19 miles... Means I need 25 Turbo Trainer miles in three days...
Next month will be tougher, though.

You are averaging over 16 miles a day, so 44 miles in 4 days is less than you are doing now Re next month, its less than 2 extra miles a day. You can easily add a mile onto your commute each way to cover a lot of it. an extra mile each way is easily achievable. Break it down like this rather than thinking you have 3 days less

Simple for you but this month has not been simple for me... But at least on Sunday I won't need the turbo trainer to complete the 500 miles so long as I get the 25 miles turbo trainer needed in the three days.

Did everyone meet their personal targets?

Did everyone meet their personal targets? Yes, thanks...was 12 Miles short yesterday... But with 19 mile round commute today I've done 507 Miles...and considering I struggled for three weeks and missed 4 days with no cycling at all I did it in 27 days...although not consistent…
Noticed the difference on London Bridge (home bound) today but got caught at the lights due to tithead cyclists going in front of the bus instead of behind and being slow... I stuck behind the buses. Also, icy headwind on way back but was gnashing at the teeth to do the turbo trainer...but that starts tomorrow.(after commute)
Checked my record and two years ago in Feb I did 400 Turbo Trainer Miles and 228 Commuting Miles... I've got 13 cycle commutes this month... Should have been 14 but changed over with a bloke at work and worked his Sunday.
I will do 247 Commuting Miles hopefully, so I will need 253 Turbo Trainer Miles in 28 days.(This month)

Well down HM. Take a bow. I’m sure you will smash February. I’m still keeping to my interval/cardio schedule, mostly intervals. More variation and interest than Cardio. keep up posted. in a few days we may see Mungo adding a few comments, his spinner arrives soon I understand. A virtual cycling club. 👍

The Hardest month of the year is February...although I've only taken two Ad Hocs from work in Feb… I have a week off in March and only work half of April (More Ad-hocs)... From May to September is the grind of five months of work with no leave till October... So May to September I should meet my goals easily...

Spin bike turns up tomorrow. But probably won't be built / fixed together until the weekend.
Been increasing my walking and comfortably able to do my 10,000 steps a day now with no adverse effects.

Looking forward to hearing out you get on with your spinner. Takes time to get used to the resistance and adjustments. Plenty of good music helps too.

Set your own targets according to own circumstances. Don’t worry about what others do. I find my regime quite difficult, but little more than a warm up for others,

Not only that, but I was good on the ride back and kept up with some tasty guy on a bike with gears till a dithering motorist got in the way...

My new polar ignite watch arrived today. I’m into calories, heart rates, zones and all that guff. Paired with my iPhone I have all the stuff I need for planned training sessions and results stored automatically.
One drawback. The calorie counter is far more accurate than my old watch. So have reset my 40 minute interval sessions at 320 calories. Can now easily differentiate between fat burn and muscle build too. Fat burni is useful, these days I put on 2 pounds just looking at a plate of chips! 😂
Will be interested to see how it monitors the quality of my sleep.

38 Miles Cycle Commute 38 Miles Turbo Trainer but had to sprint to get to 38 in the time... H/R got to 160. Target 125 in first 7 days so 49 short but got to keep hammering it as I now need an average miles per day of 16.96. 2x cycle commutes is 38 miles to come. Got to keep hammering the turbo trainer to get the average down...

Got to keep hammering the turbo trainer to get the average down... Is measuring miles on the turbo trainer the best measure to use? Miles on a turbo trainer are not the same as miles on the road. I see friends Strava records where they are doing 20-25 miles in an hours on a turbo/Zwift/ Peloton but they struggle to do 14 mph on the road. By changing the resistance on the turbo trainer or increasing it you can make a vast difference to the amount of "miles" covered in a given time. Would a better measure be HR Zones? or ir even using calories burned? If you don't ride on the road apart from your commutes ( the volume of which you can't adjust), then you could set a target for the number of calories burned in a month on the turbo, or calories burned. Or alternatively a target of so many active minutes on the trainer - although that could be done without exerting oneself, so is probably not the best measure. What do you do to occupy the mind whilst on the trainer and how do you deal with the sweat given you have no wind resistance to blow it away? PS - are you not ahead of the game if you have done 76 miles in 3 days and trying to do 125 in 7? I make it you are a massive 23 miles ahead, nearly 50% more than your target

Yes I'm happy with the mileage statistics of the turbo trainer. I know it's not the same as on the road... I've just been out on a utility ride, but I was a bit groggy/sluggish. No breakfast.
When I first bought the turbo trainer in 2017 within a short time I lost about two stone... My workmates were worried and many people commented on it thinking I was ill... It was quite funny really. I'd rather do the turbo trainer than not do it... Although that did tie up with me stopping the booze five months previous to when I got it.
I can do those miles at that speed as I'm not stop starting every few minutes like I am on the commute with the same old traffic lights day after day.... On the road I ride a fixie and not the newest carbon fibre bike...
I keep up an average speed on the TT of about 15.5, and I think I could match that on the road if I had a clear run... Plus my return commute is a wide variety of paths/parks and backstreets and the CS 3 cycle lane. It's not really racetrack stuff…
I believe in running up a lead on the mileage just in case I can't do it one day and also to run down the average miles I need in a day.
I listen to music, and usually I am watching something on the telly with subtitles and on the other screen I watch a CTX cycling video which has a timer on it.

According to Chrissie Wellington (Top triathlon athlete) 90 minutes on a turbo trainer/spinner doing intervals is equal to 2 hours on the road. Ride Harder music album, fantastic. Good enough for me.
It’s quite hard to determine whether miles is a great measure, depends on intensity of effort. Nor is it easy to determine whether road riding is harder/easier than indoor. My guess, bias comes into play. But there are some very clear differences in terms of mental effort. Indoor is much harder. No real distractions, Total focus is on effort, pain, breathing, zones, HR and in my case, an audio barking out times and cadence. Peaks at 92 rpm. No idea if you can do that on the road. And no free-wheeling. Don’t know about turbo trainers but on my spinner it’s impossible to free-wheel and grab a breath. 100% pushing.unless you brake and stop.
As for targets. The most important thing is to have one. It don’t really matter whether you are like me, technical recordings is my thing, makes me work, stats drive me on. Or whether it’s miles per month. I have every respect for people who set a target and do all they can to achieve it. Missing a target is not failure, not setting one and making an effort is. Which probably accounts for 95% of the adult population, a guess.
