Disagree totally. Motorists end up in court all the time. My local paper reports a driver getting points and a fine for doing 35 in a 30 and in my neck of the woods cops are regular feature on the A303. Mobile and fixed Number plate recognition systems in places top. It goes on. Drivers are an easy target. The road where I live. One side of the street has a cycle lane. The other has not. Guess which one the cyclists use. The lane is there for visible safety reasons too. No issue with youngsters. Don’t want them on the roads but it’s to/from work people. Can’t be bothered You use cycling videos like me. Dig out one around London and look at the cycling standards. Red light jumping, pavement use at junctions, pulling out without looking. I could go on. Too many cyclists believe the Highway Code don’t apply to them, only the bits they like. Very little accountability. That is the problem Disagree totally.Motorists use mobile phones/speed/drug driving/bullying and kill people day after day. Also damaging street furniture and traffic lights. They also jump red lights.I've had two recently one was on the junction of the cycle lane I was using and the did it at speed. Pavement parking and drive cars capable of 120+ mph…why when electric bikes are limited?
Left hooks/abusiveness/driving at me down the side streets because I avoid the main roads when I can.General lack of care and lack of concentration.
I've even had a car driver come out of a side street the wrong way at speed and almost crash into me.I just about managed to avoid him.
If you actually knew the rules properly cyclists don't have to use the cycle lane…it's advisable not an actual law. No I don't jump the reds, but I get tarred by people like you.Just because the country has turned into a shambles of selfishness (that includes cyclists and motorists) it isn't my fault. Drivers wouldn't be an easy target if they didn't speed/drink or drug drive have MOT and insurance drove a vehicle with proper working lights (I do many early morning cycle commutes) Had vehicles which were in a fit working order.Didn't speed/pavement park/mobile phones time and time again and park in really stupid places like on the zigzags. They don't have the resources to properly police the roads which is a shame, but motorists are the biggest killers.
You think you and your driving mates have got it bad because of being done for speeding or any other law you break but try cycling out there where some people drive a two tonne killing machine
While full of hatred and don't give a s***.The media have worked this very well.

Hi Howling. I’m not and never will defend poor driving. Drivers subject to prosecution if caught. And I have read the new Highway Code. Unlike most in my opinion.
You are right cyclists do not need to use lanes. Nonsense in my opinion but them is the rules. But using a pavement is not permitted. Something I encounter ever day outside my drive despite There being a road and lane within metres. That is wrong. Poor attitude or lack of knowledge. Though I turn a blind eye to youngsters. More than once I’ve nearly been mowed down by a biker and got a nasty look, like it’s my fault. My road is a popular route to a trading area. I don’t bother pointing to the cycle lane any more. The town centre is a nightmare. cycling not walking even where no cycling signs exist. And don’t get me stated on red traffic lights. Clearly they don’t count for cyclists. When they do.
On more than one occasion I have, along with a growing queue of cars, sat behind a cyclist in the middle of the road (allowed) despite the lane feet away. Within the rules - yes. Totally arrogant and inconsiderate.- yes
I don’t believe in the excuse that others are just as bad. Poor drivers, absolutely. No excuse to be a poor, inconsiderate cyclist. Who generally come off second best in an incident whoever is right

I don't think anybody was insinuating that…You hate cyclists which is not unusual as cyclists are posted in a very bad light by the media.
There are always going to be idiots in whatever group of road users there are.
There are many bad drivers and many bad cyclists.
I think with respect we should close this discussion as it's taken a very negative turn.

The negative turn on this thread is MY FAULT…A big mistake when arguing about cyclists.I know many cyclists cycle like prats and jump the reds… I think all the bad behaviour that happens on the road is due to a failing society and a Police force which has been cut so much. The police can't police the roads properly and get people to behave themselves. I rarely see motorcycle cops now unlike twelve years ago when they were more common.
Let's leave it at that and move on. Let's not become like the other board (was) I'm not sure what it's like now.
We may not all agree, but that's just the way it is.
Cheers.

one of the failings has been the cut in police numbers, but added to that is population growth with police numbers not matching that so less resource against more people. Thats a recipe for the issues we see now, dates back to May when she was home secretary. The increase in police numbers now still won't be enough for the increased population growth especially in our major cities.

Today on the way back it was okay till I got between Canning Town and Plaistow…At the cemetery lots of cars. One pulled out because they didn't look properly...Only looked once didn't check.I stopped…The second car driver was on the phone.Got outside Plaistow Station and ended up behind a lorry but was unsure which way it was turning either right or left obviously and driver was oblivious I was there. It turned right I turned left. Forgot Poplar beforehand two cars coming at me.The first driver was not driving to the conditions (too fast) and left it very tight for me to get through…The second one was the same but this time it was an SUV tank. Both drivers obviously didn't give a s***. Forest Land between Maryland and Forest Gate is a shyte road and I got off of that road not giving the chance of any driver doing a shyte close pass at speed as usual.
I'd been up since 3am and have to concentrate at work and probably have to concentrate more when cycling home to try to stay safe because I know some drivers won't bother.
It's not my fault that the cops don't clamp down on red light jumping cyclists but do for moany drivers for speeding.

Lorry at Plaistow. Cyclists don't stop at red lights, apparently. Lorry stopped in bike box. Lorry driver not signalling. I held back in view of the mirror, but I suspect the driver had no idea I was there. Lorry went right I went left.

Cyclists are perfect. We all know that! The continuation of this theme is corrosive. I’m tempted to list what I see too. But I won’t Time to stop. Else I’ll be only too happy to contribute to its escalating into something none of us want. We all know the score, the good, the bad and the ugly. Time to stop.

Negative is right Howling. Dis loves to stir and I’ve corrected him more than once. So he has an axe to grind. I’m happy to let it ride, idiots don’t bother me. Some fools have to be suffered for the benefit of the greater good. It really is time to call this a day mate.

Well I'm gonna post about cycling and its gonna be a positive I'm afraid. I've just paid £119 to get my sons mountain bike fixed and thought ill ride it rather than stuff in my motor. So tonight I'm going down a slight hill I'm to the left of the road on the yellow line so I'm very tight to the kerb probably hitting 40mph and I know there is a car behind me. He waited and waited and when he went past me he gave me plenty plenty of room. I was Impressed if I'm honest. That was good car driving, thinking and caring about the cyclist, but more than that following the new highway code guidelines when dealing with a cycle.
See not all drivers are bad!

You really do not get the fact that you are not a ‘manager’ anymore and that nobody defers to your opinion. As I previously stated, that is sad really.
