Started on Tramadol but it had no effect whatsoever.Oxycontin works well and by golly it makes you feel good.Quite a nice place to be,but you cannot keep on with it.When you let go is when the hell begins.Have you been advised amytriptiline, helps sleep but that is about all.

Currently l'm trying to avoid anything which will require more cold turkey than l already face. Just got out of MRI machine this morning, looking for a physical cause for the pain. We'll see what it finds.

One just missed me on a narrow pavement as i exited from the station.Head in the air to one side, phone to the ear and one hand on the handle bar not in control. If either of my knees had been hit, that would have immobilised me for a long time. My next orthopedic appointment is December 6th.Struggling to walk 20 yards without serious pain. But no one will walk for me so I just carry on hurting and walking. Oooh sorry about that.

My mum had a knee replacement done in her mid 30s (about 1956) which looked like it had been done bythe local butcher. lt plagued her, on and off, for the next 50 years.

I just tried to do a little work on the skirting board, found it impossible and need muscles like Garth to get up.It is surprising what help to your body sound knees are.Back problems must be the same. The moral of the story is,do not have a physical occupation.I am broken beyond help. What is left of me ain't much good.Just the will which says go on.(If, Rudyard Kipling)

Reviving the cycling thread.
I'm still daily commuting about 15k, when I go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week I usually run a 5k. And I swim with the kids once or twice a week.
But I'm still fighting the battle of the bulge. I just really love food and beer (alcohol only on weekends though). I don't think this will ever change.
Since my injuries earlier on this thread I've been taking daily Cod Liver Oil, Omega 3 Fish Oil, and also a top up of Calcium for over a year now. My joints have never really felt better. Whether it's the vitamins or being active we'll never know.

I cant compete with these numbers but I love my bikes. Nothing makes me happier than cycling in the sunshine along canals, gravel, forests.

I used to cycle to work every day along the canal from bethnal green to hackney wick ( a long while ago before the Olympic stadium was built ) this stopped one day when some idiots pushed me as I passed them and I ended up in the canal ☹ the bike was sold a couple of days later and I've never been on one since 🤔

Canals can attract a few idiots but I would let them put me off. I know that stretch well from when I worked round there. Boy has it changed. I cycled it last year and its amazing.

Whether it's the vitamins or being active we'll never know. I miss this thread. about 9 months ago I started to suffer from fatigue. Spinning for 45 minutes plus every day stopped. A few re-starts but 15 minutes and that was it. Eventually my spinning bike lay unused. No medical reason ever identified. became a fat git and breathless. At 73, inactivity hits hard and fast. Now officially overweight, but not yet obese. Shameful. Joined a gym and do 3 spinning classes a week, amongst other stuff. Despite having a professional quality bike at home I needed the motivation that comes from being in a group. Also me and Mrs dOh do the same classes. It’s working. I push much harder in a class environment. Have to say I put some of the younger ones to shame! Started to use my home bike too, Cardio mainly. The gym is no frills. But open 24/7, classes within the monthly fee of £21, all the equipment you need (and some you don’t!) and 5 minutes of my house. Pure Gym, a good franchise. Still overweight but energy levels coming back. Trying to convince Mrs dOh we need to buy folding bikes. Trips to Bournemouth in the better weather without the need for a sodding bike rack. So far unsuccessful, will keep plugging away. I’m nothing if not persistent.

I love the sound of cycle wheels on gravel. How I envy those that can cycle. Now, I would have a mountain bike. On my River Roding walks I used to see bikes dumped in the river. As a kid anything with a wheel on dumped in the river would have been pulled out and used, even car tyres.I still get tempted by the bikes.

We used to gather up all manner of bike bits from the fields around the river Roding and cobble something together with a few necessary new bits from the bike shop at Valley Hill, Loughton. I'm out most days with my springy (front and rear) bike in the local forest with our dog. The only real exercise l get these days.

Sounds great fisch and helps with depression.Trouble is one never wants to go home. The off licence is still there at the crossroads. That row of shops looks wonderful.

I was cycling with a mate by the chippy on the corner there when he got hit by a vehicle and he broke his leg. It was an undertaker's van. He was always doing stuff like that.😁

Next to the family grave in Loughton Cemetery is the grave of a 17 year old who was killed by a lorry at those crossroads. Also a fellow scout who drowned in the Roding, just 13 years old.
