why is stating that it is a gentle ride before breakfast a put down? If you want to twist words to make is into a put down, then it says more about you than anything else. I will repeat for the 3rd time, ~I was not and am not belittling or putting down what anyone, least of all HM achieves. Howling is right. These conversations are best suited to the other place. we have a good cycling thread going. With your experience you may want to chip in with a few stories of your own, or advice. So much nicer. 👍 wouldn't dare comment or pass advice as some would twist it that I am putting down or knocking others who do it differently. Why not put your cycling to use to help Leyton Orient Trust - see other thread. Help make Orient most successful London club

Cycled with my mate from Chigwell to Southend on 20 inch wheeled bikes when we were 10 years old. I worked it out that Southend was about 38 miles so if we maintain 30 mph we'd get there in just over an hour. 30 mph on a 20 inch . Got stopped on the A127 by the traffic cops but they let us continue. Bit strange I know but maybe we promised to walk the rest, I can't remember. Done a bit of scrumping off of the 127. Got to Southend, looked at the sea and ate some apples. On the way back, it was getting dark and we had no lights. Proper dark now. Dumped the apples, as they were weighing us down. Pulled into a garage near Basildon. Garage bloke wouldn't let us go any further, said it was too dangerous, he called the police. Police arrived and called my parents. Mum & Dad arrived. Dad put our bikes on the roof rack and got annoyed because the bikes scratched the roof. The important bit is did you average 30mph all the way to Southend?

I used to love cycling to Southend and Cambridge....probably wouldn't try it now. Too many twats on the road.

I cycle (spin) everyday and have done for the past 6/7 years, with very few breaks. Twice a week at gym classes for god knows how many years before that. Never think much about mileage, not an incentive for me. My focus is cardio and intervals, 40 minute intensity based sessions and depending on the days programme bike burn between 250 and 400 calories. So any programme that focuses on distance is not one that I feel I could reasonably contribute to. It’s just not my thing. out of interest, posts with howling mad, today’s session I paid attention to distance and estimate each 40 minutes I do a modest 18k, so 27k or 16 mph. 10 miles a day won’t contribute much.

I only use distance as a form of consistency... Been using the turbo trainer for four years but today will spin again without looking at the mileage and speed till the end out of a point of interest to see if I am improving...

Nothing better than getting out on the open road and gently going to places of interest. Spotting off for a bite. Last time I got on my bike, probably years ago. Apart from Center Parcs and Bournemouth promenade. Too sodding dangerous and our roads are crap along the edge. cycled to Southend as a kid. Definitely would not do it now. Or in my case Bournemouth, my closest resort. Bikes on the rack when going there.

Done the first session covered up speedo and co.
6.16 miles in 26 mins... It's so close, but I'm 0.16 of a mile up. See if I can do better later... Feel like I've smoked 40 cigarettes... Suppose this is better than nothing...The Hardest month next month but it's not looking good… Will go for a nap soon...

I decided to monitor my distance/speed today and it was circa 15mph on a cardio session. Cardio I keep up a steady pace, no intervals. Heart rate circa 105-110. But my sessions are limited to mostly one a day, sometimes I do a light second session. Based on my average session time of 40 minutes, I do 300 miles in a month. Somewhat short of your 500 miles target. my interval sessions are 40 minutes of huge effort, not good to do daily, but factoring in the breaks between efforts I doubt the distance is much more.

I do combine though with my Cycle Commute mileage... Think I've done 14 cycle commutes this month (266 Miles). I have done 40 mins and longer on the turbo trainer in one session when I need the miles...

Yes, I realised that. 500 miles a month is a decent target, nearly twice what I do and I don’t have to do a job in between. Even combining commutes and turbo cycling. I don’t outdoor cycle any more. Not enjoyable, need your eyes and ears everywhere, motorists, pedestrians, pot holes. No fun. I’m happy to stick to my spinner.

Perhaps you could make up the other 20. My bike has only one wheel so I am sorry I cannot help.

My bike has only one wheel, so I am sorry I cannot help. Yes big month for me is February as I have to clear 250 in 14 days including work, but I have 13 commutes next month meaning my average on the turbo trainer for days off has to be 17 miles... Other option is to do Turbo Trainer after work commute to drop the miles needed… I didn't manage it last year and would need to check my records to see if I have ever completed it...
I'm still getting gunge from my lungs from the previous chest infection, so I think I can understand the problem... Devastating.

Nah, we had to slow down at the Half Way House Roundabout. I think the only way to get anywhere near that speed or even half of it on a 20 inch would be to throw it off a cliff.

My knee injury is getting better.
First felt pain on 21st December, didn't move much in-between then and the 21st January when I literally walked 50 yards round the block.
Next day, lap of the little park. Day after made it to the shop. Bit of rest, little walk in the snow yesterday. Today I hit my 8,000 steps target.
Slowly getting there.
