Really? Then you know nothing at all firstly I am not knocking anyone's achievements. I am knocking the view that 500 miles is gruelling. Its a little over an hour a day everyday. Its something anyone can achieve with a little bit of commitment. I cycled just under 1100 miles last month - all out on the road - in all weathers and all temperatures. I cycled well over 9000 miles last year - all outside rather than on indoor set ups. Including a 3 day off road Trans Pennine Trail ride from Southport to Hornsea carrying my own luggage Feel free to look at all my rides - they are on Strava for all to see. I did Lands End to John o Groats alone and carrying my own luggage in a sedate 10 days, oh and at the time I weighed nearly 20 stone in weight as well Cycling is not particularly hard to do. It is having the commitment to do it and the time that is far harder. I was out this morning before 0700 for a quick 25 mile ride in temperatures down to 28F. I would have done longer but I had to be back to let the builders into my home. I will be out later this evening for another hour's ride Then you should know a damn site better than diminish the efforts of someone setting a target and trying to achieve it without giving any consideration to the all round picture. Nor any thought to just how much harder indoor cycling is compared to outdoors. To quote Chrissie Wellington. Put it this way. You are clearly proud of what you do, fair enough. I am not proud of what I do, nor am I ashamed of it. I only posted it to rebut your false accusation that I do not cycle. A false claim by you made from a position of total ignorance about me given you know nothing about my age, health, fitness or employment status, its interesting to see you making comparisons between what you do and what I do. What part of I am not diminishing HM's efforts do you not understand. I even said it expressly in my last post and explained what my post was about. If you stopped trying to pick a fight, you would also have noticed that I did not comment on Hm's posts or reply to him. I have said nothing about HM and am not challenging him. It's rather interesting that HM has not taken issue with what I posted, it's only you being offended on his behalf I suggest you try reading what is posted rather than trying to twist it into something it is not.

My 500 miles target is just Turbo Trainer and Cycle Commuting (per month) I have no interest in leisure commuting or going out for a 70-mile bike ride on a Sunday like I used to. I also have no interest in cycling in London.
I'm riding a cheap high geared heavy fixie bike. Furthermore, I bought a cheap bike ditched the original wheels as they were cheap and shyte and put my own wheels on. I wanted to see how many miles I could get out of a bike which cost £200, and it's done 3000~+ miles since I bought it…
I have three Audax bikes and three fixies and a Brompton.
Likewise, I'm definitely under par and struggling at the moment with the weather, and I've just about got over the chest infection, but it's taken its toll this month...

Yeah, don't argue guys...Spen and I do different types of cycle rides... I rarely do leisure rides but the odd utility ride... My career and shift work put paid to that years ago...
It's not an achievement it's just a target...

Just a target! Don’t sell yourself short. I wonder what percentage of the U.K. population set themselves physical exercise targets and strive to achieve them. The answer is probably very, very, small. Those that do are to be commended. It don’t matter if that target is 20 miles or 2000 miles, or whatever makes you tick. It’s the mental attitude to set one and physical effort to do it. setting a target and meeting it is a massive achievement. My personal targets are minuscule compared to athletes. But for me they are tough and I feel elated when I succeed. I don’t use the word just!

It doesn't matter dohnut it really doesn't.Never been too impressed in my athleticism.I'm not a great hill climber, but the turbo trainer makes a difference.
Managed Turbo Trainer last night, but it wasn't easy, and I was so tired after being up at 3am and at work all day. Got the miles I needed.
I will have to go out for the odd gentle ride as I tend to spend too long cooped up in doors... Anyway enough about me... Let's stop arguing and getting the hump and leave that for the other side... Oh, by the way fisch you did nothing wrong...

.... “It’s a gentle ride before breakfast”. You don’t think that’s a put down! Really. why is stating that it is a gentle ride before breakfast a put down? If you want to twist words to make is into a put down, then it says more about you than anything else. I will repeat for the 3rd time, ~I was not and am not belittling or putting down what anyone, least of all HM achieves.

Just did the first bit of the 77 Miles I need (at least) on the turbo trainer...but after the troubles of this month I broke down and didn't complete the first 26-Minute session to get some miles in... I was upset and angry… I wasn't even up to the average speed I wanted to get to.
Not sure where I go from here as my target is still on, but I'm way below par after my three-week chest infection.

Where you go to is to get on the trainer and do what you can. Doing your best. Even in an easier gear. That in itself is an achievement. Mental strength even if the physical strength has deserted you for a while. If it’s not to be this month because of a chest infection then whatever your shortfall is, add it on over the next few months to catch up. Back on track. Feel the satisfaction of achievement. Not being beaten. Don't beat yourself up over it. And don’t hurt yourself. And importantly don’t give in. Doing this stuff is as much about mental strength and attitude as it is about fitness. Good luck.👍

I had two choices. Give up. Continue.
So will continue but will now cover the speedo up and spin...won't be obsessed with mind games and leave it at that. This happened last year and I only did 431 miles...also in Feb I shortfalled and was about 130 miles down at one time.... By the end of the year I think I was about 150 miles up...
Thanks!

Did it, but I'm still not right... Struggled... Put cloth other speedo.... Target was to get to 170 miles on turbo trainer for the month and what would you know it finished dot on 170.00 I didn't even try to do that, and I wasn't watching the Milo as cloth was over it... So I got 12 miles which means even if I get 11 miles now I will be gaining all the time because average has to be at least 11. Not 11 or more...
Next target 182....but I will cover the speedo/milo up so it will be interesting...over 52 Minutes...2x26 mins...

Cycled with my mate from Chigwell to Southend on 20 inch wheeled bikes when we were 10 years old. I worked it out that Southend was about 38 miles so if we maintain 30 mph we'd get there in just over an hour. 30 mph on a 20 inch . Got stopped on the A127 by the traffic cops but they let us continue. Bit strange I know but maybe we promised to walk the rest, I can't remember. Done a bit of scrumping off of the 127. Got to Southend, looked at the sea and ate some apples. On the way back, it was getting dark and we had no lights. Proper dark now. Dumped the apples, as they were weighing us down. Pulled into a garage near Basildon. Garage bloke wouldn't let us go any further, said it was too dangerous, he called the police. Police arrived and called my parents. Mum & Dad arrived. Dad put our bikes on the roof rack and got annoyed because the bikes scratched the roof.

Still cycling at 21:34. Howling Mad suits you! 😂. That is some effort. You working tomorrow? Being retired I get the bulk of my exercise out of the way by noon if I can now. Find it hard to get motivated late in the day. When I did I put the TV on or listened to the Orient shows. But that generally caused a loss of effort and concentration. Now I do intervals every other day, really tough, with Cardio in between. My spinner records Kilometres but I prefer my polar chest strap, work in an intensity range measured by heart rate and measure calories used. Trying to lose a few pounds put on recently. Intervals do the trick. But what is important I guess is to have a personal and meaningful target. I might have a play and see how many hours it would take me to do 800 kilometres or 500 miles.
