The gable was once in the middle. I’m old enough to remember it before the extension was built. It has annoyed me ever since. I find it irritating rather that a quaint piece of history. Move it or remove it. Cannot agree more. It is neither charming nor nostalgic. Maybe we both have OCD though - the non-symmetry does my head in. Do you both only go out if it's full moon? (not werewolf related). Our gable is in the perfect position imo but what I really find an eyesore is Brighton's sloping ends from the main stand to the opposite side. I think the architect took a long time designing the stadium and then coming to the end thought, ah that'll do.

Didn't the sun in your eyes drive you mad sitting in the East? I used to sit in the East Stand upper section but can't ever recall the sun bothering me, maybe lower down would. At Hackney Speedway we sat high up on the East Stand and it was murder trying to see anything in the early heats some summer nights, I couldn't wait until the sun set over the West Stand, but it was warm and sunny so that was alright.

We used to go to the stand alongside the back straight at Waterden Road, l have no idea about east/west. Great Friday nights, go Zenon! Incidentally, Bo Petersen is a great Twitter presence focusing on science and environmental issues. mobile.twitter.com/bopete?lang=en

Probably talking about a totally different thing but I sort of remember in the late 80's or early 90's that there was a cycle track on Waterden Road and in the middle of the track there was a BMX track.
I don't think this and the speedway stadium are the same thing.
Can anyone remember the cycle and BMX track? I can find no history of it online at all.
Sometimes we'd go before football and there were these huge cycle meets.

There was a cycle track at east way I did PE there for a while, I’m pretty sure the Olympic velodrome was built on the same site.

Sometimes we'd go before football and there were these huge cycle meets. The Great Eddie Mercx rode there in 1975. It had a road circuit 1 mile long, a bmx track and various cyclo cross routes. It was indeed on same site as Velodrome is now.

On certain days of the year, the sun used to shine directly through where the steps to the toilets were in the old West Stand. Most in the lower seats in the East Stand used to shield their eyes like a GI saluting.I always took a cap or hat with me.In the spring and summer days you got a nice tanned face.

Sounds like Stone Henge 😀 They were obviously the days when we won! Those West Stand toilets, down the back of steps behind the stand. Hard to imagine it now. Unless you've been to Blundell Park.

I never did see cycle speedway in action, downright dangerous I'd have thought. As for the Eastway, was that the same place that Eton Manor played? There was also a team called Eastway Celtic but I don't recall if it was football or some kind of cycling team.

Eaton Manor was otherside of A12 if I recall correctly

I think you are not allowed to cycle in the East Stand.

I think you are not allowed to cycle in the East Stand. No signs up forbidding it. In fact the EFL ground regulations do not seem to forbid it anywhere in the ground ( obviously no one is allowed on pitch without permission, but otherwise....) Wonder what else we can get away with that is not forbidden by the regulations?.... ( link is to 2017/18 regulations, so may have some changes www.efl.com/siteassets/efl-documents/ground-regulations-2017-18-efl---final.pdf

Regulation 23 is interesting So, if a steward says to take a dump on the centre cirle or to beat up the person in the wheelchair, you have to do it? No limitation of reasonable instruction or lawful instruction in that regulation

So, if you want to offer your mate a Polo mint, you need written permission from Danny Macklin? So next season, remember to tweet and email Danny Macklin everytime you want to hand anything to anyone else whilst in the ground. If you come back from food kiosk with 2 cups of coffee, you need written permission from the club to hand one over to your partner/ friend etc
After all, you wouldn't want to break any regulations

Regulation 19
Says you cannot tweet or text anyone anything about the game.
It also prevents you bringing your mobile phone into the ground
Although Regulation 16 contradicts this in so far as you can bring phone into ground, but can't tweet, text, snapchat etc anything, even saying you will be out of ground at 1650 is covered.
The 2 regulations are contradictory.
