I meant to tell you Bas, I was out walking the dog last week and heard the unmistakable sound of a fighter plane. It was overcast and I couldn’t see it, so I checked the flight radar app and it was apparently an IAI F-21 Kfir flying out of Donaldson Center. I’ve hoped for days to actually get to see it, but no luck. Never seen one in real life, just on videos.

I still like the prop DC-3.1935-1948,just my ideal of an aeroplane.I often watch videos on you tube of old aircraft starting up.Plus those that show fighter jets with that great sound as they take off.

I hear them when I go to the Norfolk Broads, but very rarely see them. Speed, noise, gone! Anyone notice the 'reg' a few posts back? Click on both pics (this one and the other one).

I noticed the BAS reg. Very neat. Donaldson Center is historical, and still active and some surprising things happen over there. It’s named after John Owen Donaldson, WW1 ace and an American who served in the RAF. He was shot down by Quandt and his capture and subsequent escape efforts are interesting. It’s a small airport, and a former base. It was a WW2 B-25 training base then a regular heavy bomber base. That part by itself is interesting. It’s partially fenced off, but nothing is really secretive over there at all. The US military and the companies building jets put stuff there I’m sure to be seen. Lockheed Martin started production of the F-16V there and they ship to Morocco and Taiwan. It’s like birding, it’s interesting what you notice if you pay attention.

I’m bringing back this thread for one purpose. The US Marine Corps is seeking help finding a lost F35 jet fighter. Bas or others, maybe you can help. After a “mishap”, a Marine pilot ejected over eastern South Carolina yesterday. The pilot is safe, but the United States can’t find its gazillion dollar jet.
The jet was left in auto pilot and the USMC “thinks” it isn’t still flying, but who knows? Their best guess is it landed in Lake Marion or Lake Moultrie. These lakes are popular with bass fishermen and the United States is worried that one of the fishermen will claim it under the English common law doctrine of “finders keepers, losers weepers.” Any help would be appreciated.

This was on the News a few hours ago. When they showed the satellite pic I thought, you're down there somewhere.
I don't know how populated the area is but it seems likely that it's in one of the lakes, otherwise someone would've reported seeing the smoke, assuming it had enough fuel in it.
If it's still flying the pilot must of had it on extreme eco mode, I've got something like that on my washing machine.
We use these planes, the F35B variant on our big carriers.

My daughter and I were at her tournament this weekend at Patriot’s Point. The weather got intense yesterday afternoon, and we drove home through a deluge/ thunderstorm after her last game. I’m sure that front had something to do with the crash.
Charleston and North Charleston are densely populated, but once you get up the interstate into Dorchester County it becomes much less populated. Large forests and large farms as well as the two large man made lakes. They are guessing it’s in the the large lakes, but you would be surprised how nonchalant they are about the search. The US government has deemed it a “local problem” which is typical and has effectively turned it over to the state.

If it's in one of the man made lakes then it won't be very deep so should be relatively easy to get out.
I know it's a stealth kite (what my RAF brother calls them) so was possibly not being picked up on radar, especially if it was flying low for a while beforehand.
I believe the radar signature on that size of stealth is about the same as a flock of birds.
International Rescue wont help because there's no threat to life, I bet Gordon's got the right hump. If you know what I'm talking about.
Btw, we're getting the tail end of your bad weather here now.

It’s like that jet that maybe landed or maybe crashed in the sea mh370. We have all this technology and we don’t know where it went. We have networks to stop attacks and we lose a plane. Now the USA lose a $100m jet fighter and they’ve no idea where it went. How is that even possible? Where is all this surveillance the USA is supposed to have? It amazes me that we can lose a plane and not know where it’s gone. Is it really that easy to bypass the security networks?

In certain areas and low altitude things can get a little fuzzy. MH370 had it's transponder switched off and flew at low altitude. They've found parts of the plane (slats & other wing stuff) washed up on beaches somewhere in Indonesia, I think it was. Of course they could've landed it in the jungle and planted stuff on the beaches, but I doubt it.

They (whoever that is) have found a debris field in Indiantown, a small community in Williamsburg County north of Kingstree and west of Garden City on the coast. Per local news.

Bas, Update if you’re interested. The official version of events for the SC F-35 crash is that it was weather related from the storm, and the plane was in autopilot with the transponder off, and the plane became inverted and the pilot ejected. He parachuted into a residential neighborhood, and is doing well after a hospital visit. The reports are that he lost sight of the plane due to the circumstances of his ejection from the plane.
There is also an account of the earwitness to the crash of the plane itself. It’s gone viral because the gentleman’s description is vibrant, and he says something at the beginning of the interview that I’ve heard many times but people from elsewhere apparently think is the intro to profanity.
It’s really amazing no one got seriously hurt in all of this mess, though. The F-35’s here have been shut down for investigation, so I have to assume the technology is the issue. Thought you may be interested. Others here too may be interested.
