Players and manager? Wouldn’t surprise me. But the same could be said for us, for every club. We knew we would be in league 1 and pretty certain who was going to be let go. Tbh I’d be surprised if professional clubs don’t have ideas for the following season. With Travis I’d be absolutely staggered if he didn’t install this approach in the club. Of course we pre-plan. I’d be amazed if the club didn’t have a list of possible targets based on known contract dates. And those within our range. OK for sure it’s not an exact science. Lots of variables. But these variables don’t seem to phase Evans, even at little Stevenage, hardly to biggest attraction for players. He has an amazing and positive mindset. Knows what he wants and goes for it. I just hope we know who we want and get the best of those in good time. Loans accepted as different. Listened to Sam Allardyce talking about this. At any one time he had a list of six possible players for every position in case he needed someone. I’m sure that the club plans well in advance in respect of incoming players and the fact that a “shopping list” of possibles is in place has been talked about by Ling, Wellens, Travis et al on numerous occasions. Whether it’s fair comment or not however there does often seem to be a bit of a delay in the club doing its transfer business. To what extent - if any - we retain the “transfer committee” process that has previously attracted criticism I don’t know but I do think the perception still lingers that the club is not very nimble in the market. Could be of course that the clubs budgetary constraints hamper Ling & Co and affect his ability to act quickly more than we realise? If we were a yo yo club like Rotherham would it increase the finances as we are somewhat limited with the capacity of Brisbane Road Gaughan Stadium.

Meanwhile Stevenage continue the Evans style with their first signing. 25 year old Northampton striker moves to the Lamex stadium. Alex Revell getting in early. Decent enough strike rate. One of the worst strikers I’ve seen at Brisbane Road in each of the past two seasons, less goal threat than Drinan. Stevenage are welcome to him. Can understand that, I thought exactly the same When Drinan and Smith joined us, posted as much. But both, when playing in a style that suited them, were in the top 10 scorers under whatshisname. People forget both were almost scoring for fun for a while. Drinan joined with a really poor scoring record. But both struggled under RW. Neither became poor overnight. They just didn’t suit our style of play. Same for Pigott. So it’s hard to judge until we see what they can do under a manager who has his own style of play. The mistake I made with Smith was looking at core stats. Best look not at games played but minutes played. Looks a whole lot better.

Pigott will excel this coming season. Maybe he will redshank but it seems doubtful it will be in an O’s shirt.🤔

We do things different,we wait and see,as someone said look at the Graham signing. No rush, plenty of players available. In my opinion the best thing to have at kick off will be a fit and ready team with no long term injuries.

Why the obsession with the tax dodging, rotund, confrontational (but rather successful) Scottish fellow ? How many signings have other clubs made...? Relax

Why the obsession with the tax dodging, rotund, confrontational (but rather successful) Scottish fellow ? How many signings have other clubs made...? Relax Number 6 now with Joe Powell signing. No obsession from me, just a keen interest in his approach to the transfer market, the speed at which he operates and how it differs from us and many others. For what it’s worth I like keeping an eye on the comings and goings. Helps keep the football interest alive during the close season.

Didn't see much to be impressed with. Although looking at his stats he was a good player in a poor team and Burton we're poor.

I think the speed with which he operates could lie with targeting out of contract or released players, who are around 30 and quite possibly thinking if I hold out for a better offer, I might not get one and feeding the family is a great incentive to do so. Plus, Evans has a track record of success, so if you’re a player who doesn’t mind his style, why not join a team who might be in the hunt for promotion, towards the back end of your career.

Certainly if you are planning a substantial rebuild ( as it appears Rotherham are) then it makes perfect sense to get your players in early so as they have the maximum amount of time to bed in.

No one knows how they will bed in until the season starts in earnest, about mid-October.

No one knows how they will bed in until the season starts in earnest, about mid-October. True, but getting the players signed in good time for pre- season maximises the opportunity to work with the individuals and - in theory at least - should help the transition.

Could be right, they did let a lot of players go, though have not bothered to see how many they kept from last season. But what is for sure, they are bringing in an awful lot of league 1 experience.

A lot of injuries pre season. ? Meaning there are a lot of injuries pre-season.Just look at last seasons dreadful count.Probably more injuries training than in a match.
