Well that was woeful. Our tactics were very poor, our formation was crap, our ability to pass a ball embarrassing and for players to keep giving possession away and or robbed of possession at the level was poor, really poor. It was quite telling that Kane said it’s the tactics the manager is employing. To be fair to the Danes, we didn’t deserve anything from that game at all. We were proper s***. I see the game the same. Also the managers team selections are baffling. playing Phil Foden on the left flank is stupid, he needs to be playing in the central areas. Another example of playing a square peg in a round hole is Alexander-Arnold playing him as a holding midfielder is not working You cannot parachute a player into that role, who has got very little experience, and say 'there you go' He never does the job for Liverpool with his back to play. He is brilliant looking forwards because he gets whatever range of passing he can find, but this is not working. Having the ball under such pressure is not easy and you can go into your shell. That means you then do not make yourself available enough to receive the ball. And this has that feel. We look like a team that have never played together, disjointed football and unable to control the game. My own thought, often wonder why the insistence on playing the wonderful left footed Saka on the the right wing. Earlier in his career he played very well on the left side, obviously easier for him to take on a fullback and put a cross in. I am not a big fan of playing inverted wingers and England could at least trying to mix it up and in the course of the game at least try swapping Saka over to the left wing. Harry Kane is dropping too deep, he has lost pace and needs to be playing higher up the pitch. Watkins played very well when he game on with his extra pace and aggression. Lastly how long is it before the talented Cole Palmer is going to have to wait before the ultra cautious Southgate gives him a chance to play

Lastly how long is it before the talented Cole Palmer is going to have to wait before the ultra cautious Southgate gives him a chance to play What's interesting to me is how Trent and Foden seem to really struggle outside of their club systems. Meanwhile we have a player who's proven all season that he can excel in a disjointed rabble, which is exactly what England look like right now. We need to see what Palmer can do against Slovenia. I'd personally like to see Bellingham drop back to where Trent's playing and put Palmer in the 10. Trent needs to be a RB sub for when we're chasing a goal.

My take on the modern game is this. Today’s players are generally technically so much better than years ago, from top to bottom. Players able to adapt to different systems, sometimes even during a game. Managers ability to adopt different styles against different opponents and use the vast array of substitutions to change, even during games extensive. Fitness levels massively better. All this is streets ahead of bygone days.
But football today at times can be so fecking boring. The purists will say all this tippy-tappy sideways, backwards stuff is about probing, 25 passes ending up where you started against defences happy to allow it to happen. Who needs sleeping tablets. England won’t master the football world but when it comes to boring the pants off people are world class.
How can a side filled with so much talent be so bloody useless? Approach and attitude. The desire not to lose greater than the desire to win.

The desire not to lose greater than the desire to win. Result of being managed by a manager with no flare who has never won anything and as a club manager was mediocre. His tactics are too defensive and stale and cost us the Euro final against Italy, get an early goal and put the handbrake on tactics. Too many players being played out of position and not to their strengths. He got the job because none of the top managers wanted the job. Nice man no doubt but that does not make for a winning manager ! As the old saying goes ''No guts, no glory'' !

They both struggle as that's not the positions they play in! Foden has been arguably the best player in the PL last season playing as a 10. Play Bellingham alongside Rice but as centre midfielders not holding, push Foden in front of them and watch them run amock. Give Gordon an opportunity on the left and suddenly we are better balanced. Jude can still make forward or late runs and players are in comfortable positions. It's interesting Kane said it was the tactics, so the players are doing what they've been asked to do. Go 1 up and defend the lead as GS thinks we are good enough. It's the tactics if madness. I watch the Spain v Italy game and I really enjoyed it. If it wasn't for Donarama the score would have been 6, yet Italy were in the game despite being run ragged!

Much of the blame clearly must lie with Southgate and his tactical setup but that still doesn’t explain the lethargy and frequent inability of supposedly world class players to complete even basic 5-10 yard passes. Strange.

I'm sorry to say I'm bored stiff watching England play, at least there's one team worse than us, even if it's the "sweaty socks", We will never win anything with Southgate, he's clueless
