Just a thought but any team that has Declan Rice as a regular holding midfield player will never win anything he's got to be the most overrated player I've ever seen. I gave up counting the number of times he picked up the ball, turned sideways or backwards to pass, when the opportunity was there for a forward pass which would have put the pressure on Spain. He needs to look at Rodri to see how an all round holding midfielder should play.

Maybe a bit overrated, but England don’t have any better. He played very well for Arsenal last season in a more attacking role with Jorghino or Partey doing what he did for England. And Arsenal were too far off winning the league. Admittedly he is nowhere near the likes of Rodri and Kross, but who is?

I couldn’t believe how the supposed “superstar” delivered so little over all the games (apart from one good goal). Every time he was touched he went down like a sack of potatoes ! Where was his strength? Must have learnt that playing in Spain. Given he won the European Cup with Real Madrid, he must be pretty decent. The midfielders/strikers who come out with most credit from the Euros are Mainoo, Saka, Palmer and Watkins. Only Saka was a first choice. Foden, Bellingham, Kane & Rice didn’t play as well as expected and Alexander Arnold & Gallagher were pushed out by Mainoo. It’s a shame Toney didn’t get more game time as he was a handful for Slovakia when he played extra time. Guehi was very good at the back and an improvement over Maguire. England had the good fortune of being in the weaker half of the draw. Spain were simply better. England just need to go again in the USA in two years time.

One of the problems with England down the years is putting square pegs in round holes. Paul Scholes played on the left so Gerrard, Lampard and Beckham could all play with Rooney and Owen as strikers. Scholes never played particularly well for England in that set up and it would probably have been preferable to have Joe Cole. With Spain, even when Rodri went off they had a like for like replacement in Zubimendi. England don’t have a player like that at all. The problem with playing both Bellingham and Foden is they were looking to do the same things. Palmer should have played ahead of one or the other.

I don't feel the same if England lose as I do when the O's lose.Perhaps my expectation for Orient is bigger than England.

I don't think Orient supporters should cry over England's defeat, the Football Association didn't give a damn about us when that Italian was intentionally destroying this club

Only the young and naive thought we'd beat Spain.what chance did we have playing sideways and back to Pickford.allowing all teams we've played to pack their own box area.

It seems to me we're missing a trick regarding how we press. Spanish defenders, when in possession, always had at least one easy pass allowing them to avoid the pressing forward and still keep possession almost risk free. When our defenders were in possession, the Spanish press seemed to be better organised and they cut off all/most of the angles of escape - without having to run about like headless chickens. Kane, Bellingham and Foden were all notably knackered by mid second half.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cx723z8n7qzoOnly one England player in ‘the team of the tournament’, but 5 Spaniards. They were the best team. Trouble is, you move on from Southgate but who is going to be able to mould this group of players into world beaters. Spain have a style which is encouraged at all age levels, so when they reach the first team, they can slot seamlessly into their roles. We need to look at how we can replicate this if we want to compete, so no easy fix.

When Kane pressed the defender foden didn't back him up so they always had that spare man you refer to. Again we don't know what Southgate asked them to do, as it's a tactic to let teams have it at the back but press when it comes into our half for example. Unknown variables.

I thought England played too defensively with many sideways and back passes , a bit like watching the O'S at times 🤔
