Rovers probably feel they've got a bargain now hes a full international and fancy selling for a nice profit. But swings and roundabouts,we got a gem in galbraith for nought

Easy to say now but I was never 100% convinced by Ruel tbh. Obviously Bristol consider the move a risk worth taking and nobody can blame the player for wanting to maximise his income whilst he can, so for me it’s a case of good luck to all concerned. Now the club must move on to the pressing task of replacing 13 goals a season. 👍👍☕️

This is likely overly optimistic, but maybe this is some proof that there may be something to the two strikers rumor is true. OOP are reliable, and have heard that there could be two strikes in by the end of the week and now Ruel gone shortly thereafter.

It's rather disconcerting that we couldn't match Bristol Rovers' offer

I'm with donut on this one.
We gave him an offer which we must have felt valued him correctly, he looked elsewhere and Bristol Rovers have offered something better.
Fair play to the fella.
Not bothered either way on this one. He's gone but replaceable and I wouldn't have got into too much of a bidding war about it.
Is a shame more because he was one of our own, but these things happen.
Of all the out of contract players Ruel was the one I wasn't too bothered if he left.
Glad TJ, Happe, and Pratley have signed on again.

Hardly a stunning rise up the ladder if true. Finished below us last season. Maybe we’ve signed better and got fed up with his antics. Stupid comment. Farewell Ruel, thanks for everything 👏 So which bit is stupid? Do you feel the Gas represents a stunning rise up the ladder. Or his messing about at contract renewal time which has us hanging on till the last minute.

Sure but you're talking about a bigger club with a bigger budget that finished four places beneath us, not two divisions. Same principle. It really isn't.

Does anyone think that the fact that we haven't signed any new players had a bearing on Ruel's decision to move on ?

All of it was stupid and spiteful. So nothing then. And nothing nasty, wish him well. But it’s a reasonable observation based on what we see. I’ll repeat, just for you. I’d be happy if he signed for us but not at any price. He rejected our offer, his choice not ours. He rejected the club, the club did not reject him. I’m sure our club treated him fairly as they have done giving him his career over the past 10 years, but it was not good enough so he moves on, it happens everywhere all the time. But I expected him to do better.. f you think it’s a stunning step up, fine.

At least his departure is sorted now and hopefully we have lined up a replacement who can start preseason with us. Good luck Ruel and thanks for your contribution to our recent success.

One interesting case arises from this decision by Ruel.... Will he rise in the hierarchy in the way only a very few ex-O's have or will he emulate so many others who slowly drift downwards and end up facing the prospect of the NL being the only place from which offers arise?
We know his abilities well by now, it's time to sit back and watch.

Notice the article on the website says we started negotiations last year, so Ruel/his advisers have been stringing us along for some time. Feels like the club is a bit irked by the whole process.

Seems the fact that ruel is now a full international albeit with one of Europe's weakest footballing countries has turned his head. He feels he's entitled to a larger wage. So best of luck, but as pointed out, remember George porter,he thought he was the cats whiskers, left us and plummeted.

I ask again, why is my observation not accurate regarding The Gas. In many ways they are similar to us in history and achievement. Their ambitions going forward are similar to ours and it remains to be seen whether they will achieve more than us. I know I would not swap managers nor owners with theirs and that is not being disrespectful. So as it stands it is definitely not a stunning rise up the ladder. His sodding about when it’s new contract time is well know. So should we wait, and wait, and wait till he makes up his mind or just get on with the business of building our club. No brainer. We get on with it and look to upgrade if we can. We wait and see if we do. From what I know we got our fingers burnt in January waiting for a player who changed his mind. He is not bigger than the club. As for being on his back - absolutely. But why? I’ve always seen Ruel as a player with huge potential (so do BR it seems) yet in my opinion he continues to waste his talent. When he is good, he is good. But all too often anonymous. I suspect the Gas feel they can develop his talent. If they do, they will have a decent player but for us he was always a nearly man. Hence his role as an impact sub, great in small bursts. Thats purely down to him. Maybe a fresh start is what he needs.

Sotirou never fulfilled the early promise, sure he got some great goals but he missed many many chances he should have put away. He has the ability to beat a man but time after time he just runs into a defender and is easily dispossessed. Fine if he had stayed but it is not a massive loss like el mazouni. Let’s see if his replacement is better.
