What's the difference between an exercise bike and a turbo trainer thing? My basic understanding is an exercise bike is a dedicated exersize machine...a machine for taking exercise that looks similar to and is used like a bicycle but does not move from one place.
A turbo trainer which I have involves putting a normal bike on a roller to use as an exercise bike but unlike an excercise bike it can be taken off and used for normal duties.

Please tell me you don't wear lycra? Only people like Wiggins, Thomas, Frome should wear it. Old fat blokes look silly IMHO. What, lycra is just for drug cheats? News to me.

Is ANYWHERE safe from the lycra louts? They've got cycle lanes galore. But now they're on pavements and jumping lights - and mowing down pedestrians.
Sorry it's a Daily Mail link from 2017 but it's a bundle of fun...
I have nothing against the good considerate drivers out there.
Cyclists kings of the road against two tons of metal.Hardly.
I have nothing against pedestrians, they are kings of the road as far as I am concerned.

Aesthetically I know the difference but are they essentially the same thing?
Why would you buy a turbo trainer over an exercise bike? Is it purely down to wanting to use your own bike

Remember this cyclist from many years ago on a cycling forum...We have both left the forum.I don't agree with the politics (red light jumping and that sort of stuff) of cycling and some of the members on it.I think Cycling Mikey was getting a load of grief and got bored anyway. Saw him at St Pauls once and he caught me on his camera. He's got some balls to do this.Don't think I'd bother.
Taxi driver at the end ruins it.There I was thinking he was decent then he comes out with the usual crass comment.
This video also shows the self importance of some people.
Result of that.

Aesthetically I know the difference but are they essentially the same thing? Why would you buy a turbo trainer over an exercise bike? Is it purely down to wanting to use your own bike I was advised that a spinning bike with variable resistance is probably as close as you can get to a road bike Conditions when cycling indoors. The advice was from a NHS physio who was recommending cycling for me following an operation but not being keen to ride too much on our local roads. Big, heavy wheel, reasonably compact, very stable, minimum maintenance and generally no fancy gismos other than the resistance/brake Knob and maybe simple Rpm monitor. Used with a personal heart rate monitor chest strap type a variety of intensity of exercise is easily possible and there are endless spinning music tracks available. Recommend cycling to music. got my one a few years ago and use it every day, give or take. Would not be without it, and it don’t take up much space.

Perhaps the Daily Snail could do a piece on how perfect car divers are.
Yes you guessed it....as posted on the Monday thread....BMW driver in a hurry to get round the corner shop...Whizzes round the corner of Cemetry Road and parks right outsie the corner shop. (Very near to last weeks near dooring by another bonehead eastender)..Car coming other way so I tell myself to hang back and yes you guessed it the next second the drivers car door flies open. Not to impressed but what the hell...

Today it was Miss Boris Biker at London bridge decided to keep overtaking me and she peddaled fast but in low gear that's not going to beat me even on Londonb Bridge...Give her her dues though, she didn't undertake the bus.
Coming up to Plaistow on boy racers road Upper Road Plaistow...car overtakes at quite a speed as usual...What was that 40mph? Catch him at the lights but stick behind the bus which is turning left as I am as well..Unsure where car is going behind me as he's too far left...He does a right...Positioning not right but it had my attention.
After Plaistow Station cycling down the gradient towards Stratofrd wy I hear a car zooming up 40+mph again?...Mrs Baby on Board decides to put her foot down...Oh the irony.
Five minutes from home car pulls out from left hand side turning in front of me driver looking other way but as he wasn't looking my way I didn't take any chances.
I don't mind car drivers in general but when they come out with their anti cycle bulls*** it gets on my tits...That's why I've vowed to be nice to pedestrians whatever they do because I don't like being bullied either.

Car pulls up on my left and then turns right across my path - incredibly dangerous manouvere. 50 yards up road are traffic lights. I filtered to advanced stop line. Other car was some way back. Several car length behind. When traffic lights changed I rode on, minding my own business. A few hundred yards up road, the car that right hooked me, drove along side me about 2 feet from me as I road along. The passenger snarled out of the window "have you got a problem?". given than dangerous driving of the car, I stopped as I had no where to ride safely, being effectively trapped in gutter of road. The car then stopped and driver and passenger both got out and a rather unpleasant confrontation occurred leaving me fearing for my safety. I eventually road off away from the 2 whilst they were out of car, and took back road home. THe one piece of information, I have not mentioned above is the car involved in both incidents was a marked police car, driven by 2 thugs in uniform. I have whole incident on camera as well. Just debating making a formal complaint

Jaysus, that's gruesome.Even the cops can be dodgy sometimes.Just because they are cops doesn't mean they are good drivers. If I hadn't had my wits about me on Elephant and Castle rounderbout a few years back it would have been quite nasty as a cop van came onto the rounderbout without stopping.Must have forgot to put his blue lights on. Not good today...It has been mainly about red light jumping cyclists and idiots on the CS 3 making things difficult. The car drivers were mainly ok.
Forgot about yesterday's incident on the CS 3...I was behing an electric Lime bike with the clueless rider ambling along but half the time it's pointless overtaking as they generally shoot through the red lights....He'ls ambling along...takes his hand off of the handlebars and runs his hand through his hair...As he does this his wireless earbud pops out of his right ear....Me distracted wondering what it was then realises next second he's slamlmed his brakes full on....MLanaged to stop the fixie in time,though...
Today it was a red light julmping cycling twat on Borough High Street junction who still decides to keep on even though we are heading on a collision course...I had to put the brakes on as the other twat didn't have the brains to see the danger.
