Can't buy a bike for the missus for love nor money. Earliest available from Evans Cycles is 08.11.2020 Just sold our bikes without too much trouble . Now it will only be our E Bikes which I absolutely love . It is still my best way of staying fit and if I do a 20+ mile ride at least 5 of those will be without the pedal assist ,so essentially lugging around 30 kg of bike weight . Of course I don’t have to switch the assist off but I like the pain !

I think it is strange that this thread on cycling is now three pages long.
On your bike.

Just been on my bike commuting from work...Loads of leisure cyclists and loads of looney motorists close passes and speeding.

Stopped at the lights at Elephant and Castle yesterday with the intention of turning right when a 4x4 turns up...Get in conversation with driver who commends me for stopping at the red traffic lights...cyclist don't stop at them blah blah blah...Heard it all before from the dimwits and although I was quite polite I must admit I was relieved when the lights changed.I didn't need this from some self entitled twat who doesn't seem to realise that motorists break the rules as well and suffer terrible poor concentration with the added ability of not being able to read ahead.

Hard ride in to work...Hard ride back...Including a car tailgaiting me down Poplar High Street to get to the lights as fast as possiblreI still overtook Mr Baby On Board and beat it to the lights without being a prat.
Also cyclists don't let two motorists who squeezed past you today do that...They should never have been there anyway.
I sure as damn was not in the mood to let some prick do that to me.

Sounds painfull. Someone nicked the rest of the bike.Felt silly walking home with a rear wheel. Oh sorry I misunderstood...Sorry for your loss of your bike.
Remember always secure front and rear wheels with U-Locks if you can.
Last time I had a bike nicked was in 1990 outside Waterloo secured by cable locks. Now I use U Locks.I lost two in three years...also happened in 1988.
Of course the most determined thieves can still nick your bike but it's better to make it a bit harder for them.

The railings outside Leyton tube station have a notice saying do not lock your cycle to railings.Lots do not take any notice.I have sometimes seen the odd wheel attached and the rest of the cycle missing. The car park where I walk over the Roding Valley Meadows,is adjacent to a David LLoyd centre car park. The notice in the reserve car park says it is not for David LLoyd patrons. They again take no notice, everything belongs to them and their porches and bmw along with the huge Chelsea tractors. We have to change tack and walk at Linders Fields near Buckhurst Hill.A lovely walk but tiring because of the hills and my knee problems.Besides I have walked and enjoyed the meadows for years.

Read rumours that due to increased bike sales, would be hard to get ebikes till next year.
A bike shop, recently closed, has reopened along our road and a new ebike shop has opened in out local shopping centre. Good to see shops opening rather than the usual closure.
I just hope all these new fledgling cyclists don’t use the pavement outside my house, but instead use the cycle route on the pavement on the other side of our road, built at some cost. It was done that way for safety reasons but some cycling idiots still prefer to use a narrow pavement with blind spot, and often at high speed, rather than the designated and safe route on the other side of the road.. pricks everywhere it seems, like the drivers doing well over 30mph down our road. Which is a handy short cut to the town centre when a safe bypass was built years ago to avoid this.
Let’s face it. The world is full of selfish, lazy arseholes.

I'm hoping to see a rise in the independent shops as they can be a bit more dynamic when filling all these empty retail outlets.

Got to agree. The cycling abilities out there seem quite poor...I use the Cycle Superhighway 3 and it's not a lot of fun...More direct but there are some real inexperienced cyclists out there.Lack of awareness and red light jumper...
First cabbie today before London Bridge stopped right in the cycle box section and even over the line in that....as I was already there I was a bit peeved because it put me in a poor vulnerable position as I thought he may turn left in front of me...he didn't...I also thought he may have been trolling...oldish cabbie probably been driving since he learn't to crawl...
Second cabbie (probably half the age of the first one) was good on London Bridge as I was in front trying to catch up with two buses going Northwards. He was quite patient behind meand hanged back...I was well impressed..
Gor once though I had the energy to get over the gradient fastish on a high gear fixie bike..
True many are clueless and riding/driving too fast for the conditions....

You are a brave man. I gave up road cycling after after a few close encounters of the arsehole kind. No match for half a tonne of moving metal who feel it’s ok to pass 6 inches from the end of my handle bars. I’ll stick to my spinning bike.

Not really brave but I know my routes and hazards and ride plenty of back streets.I generally read ahead to even watching pedestrians on the other side of the road.....predicting what they will do...Always defensive riding...I let the two buses go first on London Bridge today but I still had a good cabbie behind me who was quite patient...I would have let him go if I had seen where he came from earlier...It's the way I ride... If it looks dodgy or there is a pinch point coming up I generally let the cars go first.....It's no good being right and telling the paramedic that when you are lying in the gutter looking up at the stars... Always treat pedestrians as number one as they are....I hate being bullied by cars so I won't do it to pedestrians... I know I'm not perfect but I try to be....
