Back in court today (Weds 11th July) for the umpteenth occasion. From what l can see on shrimperzone, their fans are not optimistic they'll get out of it this time. I find this very sad, it's not as if Essex (a very densely populated county) is replete with top level football clubs.

Probably Southend United in the right hands could become a biggun and that would be good for Gods county ESSEX.

My understanding is that despite the 42 days, the real issue is now with the National League who must determine whether the club can compete in and complete the NL season. The season starts before the 42 days elapse. They have a decision before the courts.
With 13 players, still not training and an embargo, they can only bring in non-contract players on a game by game basis in order to fulfil their obligations. That alongside the continuing non-payment of some staff wages and the real risk of other players leaving. Management too. Don’t see bringing in non-contract players an issue, plenty without clubs and will see playing an opportunity to prolong their career. Showcasing their skills, they will be working hard.
I can understand the extension, it gives those owed money some chance of being paid. Winding up the club they get nothing. And there still seems the chance of new owners. If they survive, this season will be a real fight for survival, especially with the prospect of a points deduction.
The trouble continues for our friends in Essex.

This seems a nonsensical decision by the court. They are given 6 weeks to find a buyer but the new season starts in less than 3 weeks on the 5th August ! From reports how can they start, the ground is apparently non functioning with services and supplies cut off due to bill non payment, their squad is down to the bare bones (or below) and wages have not been paid. I hope somehow they survive but only without Ron Martin but just don’t see them being able to start the season if the reports are true.

The decision offers those owed money the best chance of being paid. Winding up the club then people get nothing. I doubt the judge considered the football season and why should he. He is looking at a business with debts and whether a future owner could mitigate those debts. If he is satisfied a future sales is a possibility then granting an extension is the only sensible solution. Th NL season start date should not affect his decision. That is now a matter for the NL to consider.

The court are not interested in the football, it's the Nat League who must decide SUFC's future now. The court wriggled out of being blamed for anything. As l understand it, Ron Martin owns Roots Hall, not SUFC. Probably the only tangible asset, perhaps their Nat League status?

It’s E10. Good enough for me.
Personally whilst I have no great love for Southend and got a little irritated at the delight of ‘some’ at our relegation to the NL, that’s football and is routine, such rivalry is a far stretch from wanting a club, any club, to fold.
I know a few Shrimpers fans and they are just like us. They have a passion for a lower league football club and despite the turmoil, pay money to turn up and support the team, rain or shine.
They, like us, get excited about the comings and goings of staff, the fixtures coming out and pondering their prospects for the season. Routine fans, the likes of whom keep our game alive. So I look forward to the day when we can meet them on the football field, League 1, and give them a damn good thrashing.
In the meantime I wish the club and their fans the very best of luck as they navigate really difficult times. Hope they are lucky, like we were, and find solid, decent new owners.

Torquay Utd were relegated from the National league by finishing 4th from bottom. Are they hoping Southend get closed down and thus perhaps keeping their place in the NL? I can't blame them tbh.

If I was a Torquay fan I'd be praying for it. Let's hope it's a good ending for United. I mean Seaside United.

Southend were booked to play a pre-season game at Billericay today. It was cancelled cos SU can't field a team. It does look like the end now. So sad for them.

Southend were booked to play a pre-season game at Billericay today. It was cancelled cos SU can't field a team. It does look like the end now. So sad for them. It seems they may be allowed to recruit to reach 16 players. Whether contract or non-contract I don’t know. To be honest, with players having no clubs Im sure plenty will welcome the opportunity to showcase their skills. No transfer deadline will apply. The NL are in talks with the club. Paying is the issue. They have no money. Even then some players may well play for free just for the opportunity. The supporters club have started a hardship fund for those not paid for several months, though I believe some players have been. An ex-player who owns a gym has put that on offer to the players, to keep fit. As I understand it, if training, there is no insurance cover for the players. Bill not paid. Not quite the end, depends not on the court but the NL who will I’m sure avoid removing then from the league if at all possible. But there are an awful lot of people doing what they can to avoid their demise. I wish them luck. 120 years of history.
