Yes that's right. Farage, like many before him, panders to the fears of the unprivileged in society, that they can blame all their problems on someone else. In 30s Germany it was the Jews now in the UK its immigrants and brown people. Unfortunately his followers don't see him for the incredibly wealthy and privileged snake oil salesman that he is and listen to his nonsense just like they fell for his lies about BREXIT

Mrs Le Pen seems to have been given a good kicking in France. They are moving left far further than the UK.

When I started this thread I was concerned it would break down into a row and I must say everyone who contributed did so in a controlled and respectful manner.
Well done to everyone.

Well the inevitable happened. Looking at percentages not a massive shift to Labour but a massive shift away from the Tories. Same scenario when Boris beat Corbyn. It’s a vote reflecting who they don’t want rather than who they do want. So what next. 1-2 years of blaming no progress on the mess they inherited. Standard for any incoming party after a change of colour A myriad of tax hikes, generally subtle/hidden ones. Brown was an expert in this area Unions pushing for this or that benefit. Labour introducing votes at 16 so they stay in power Generally life going on as normal So as expected the blame game is now in full swing and getting very personal. Going to get this for the next year or so. We await tax hikes, but in the interim kicking those who live on the state pension alone is a start. Unions getting better deals in part funded by some pensioners. All highly predictable. Didn’t expect some of the cuts being made to be honest, but not wholly surprised. The hospital building programme too. Interesting times, but seen it all before.

This supposed 20bn black hole 9.4bn of it is the doctors pay offer that's been made. I've no issue with the doctors and nurses getting that kind of pay rise, they deserve it if not more, but as a government at least be honest 50% of this supposed black hole you've just created.
Secondly what they have done to the pensioners by taking away the winter fuel allowance is nothing short of disgraceful. People will now die this winter as they choose to heat or eat. Its estimated 800k pensioner's don't claim benefits which they are entitled to due to pride, well I hope they all rock up and claim what's due to them in full. The better off pensioner's it won't matter to them as they won't be affected so yet again the hardest up in society are hit the hardest.
Finally, that pensioner who had their full allowance of £500 taken from them by the chancellor who is paid along with all MP'S £3,400 heating allowance. You can't make this s*** up.
Disgraceful.

I have no issue with many of the pay increases Thor, none at all. It’s the way it’s being “sold” to the general public. Disgraceful. As for hitting many pensioners, that goes beyond a disgrace. Hitting a group that generally don’t vote Labour and don’t really have the opportunity to earn elsewhere. I assume this is what Labour consider honesty in politics.

More cuts and more taxation is my guess. Austerity by another name.

Just some guesses on what they may do. Same as we all do. My hunches have been ok so far. But having seen many new Governments, that’s nothing special, bog standard formula. Though I didn’t expect some pensioners to get a good kicking. That surprised me. Eat or heat, let’s hope for a mild winter.

From the outside looking in, istm that it doesn't make that much difference which side sits in No.11 Downing Street. The UK spends too much and earns too little and the elephant in this particular room is the effective rejection of the European market, the world's biggest, as a place to sell goods and services. Somebody will have to grovel to Brussels and find a way to re-enter the the single market even if it is denied that is what they'll be doing. Once you see the return of freedom of movement of labour et-al and the lifting of trade barriers, you'll know the capitulation is complete.

For example looking at GDP/economic growth we have out-performed Germany over the past 10 years, and since the referendum. Exports lower as you say. So much data, slice it as you see fit. But the issue as ever is complex and of course Brexit was never a short term change. Look in 5 years time or more when things like Covid have not affected figures. Grovel to Brussels! They want us back, never wanted us to leave. Any hint of a return and they will be only too happy for it to happen and offer concessions. Thing is Fisch Brexit happened, like it or not. The U.K. managed very well for centuries before the Common Market and is quite capable of doing so again. We just need to stop moaning, focus on the here and now, and get on with it. 10 years post Brexit have another look.

There are zero arguments in favor of it and every UK citizen under 40 is in favor of REJOINING EU. The pig headed ignorant generation that voted for BREXIT are becoming less and less relevant as each year passes and our new more enlightened generation X and Z will, I hope, continue to campaign to REJOIN EU with the new Labour government and end the ongoing BREXIT NIGHTMARE
