Not sure where the £750 k “ fee” has been concocted from. There is certainly no mention of a figure in the attached South London Press article , so it’s pure speculation I would guess. Mitchell certainly won’t be given away by Millwall who will doubtless have a sell on clause as part of the deal. At 22 years old I think it’s likely to prove a shrewd signing . Strange to think how Mitchell’s fortunes have gone in comparison to the other teenage centre back who Jackett introduced into the O’s first team - namely Shadrach Ogie! londonnewsonline.co.uk/sport/charlton-athletic-agree-deal-for-millwall-defender-alex-mitchell/

If you watched or read LL's report Nigel said we have to learn from the past make our signings early and we should expect to see movement in the next couple of weeks. Let's hope we get our pri e signings done and dusted ASAP.

Do other boarders think than El Miz is the pinnacle of what we could get in for that position, or do some people think there are others within our reach that could equal or even surpass, our Ipswich loanee? Personally, I think the best we could hope for is a Sol Brynn for Vigs scenario, decent but not quite the same.

A food for thought meeting indeed. Thank you as always for LL for his layout of the facts. We certainly need to maximise our youth system,as well as trawl more outside gems like Galbraith and O'Neill. Wish we could stay at our present stadium, meaning building a triple decker stand in Brisbane rd. Obviously the implications are high. We'd need to stretch back making it one way traffic outside and traffic free say one hour before and after matches.plus the houses outside are a sticking point.council agreement/help imperative.

Hope for el miz too,but doubt we'd pay, what Ipswich want As per the agm, looks like in the main we're after players to sell on in time,so won't pay too much to get them

Very clear assurance from Travis at the AGM that, in respect of the club’s transfer activity he “ expects a lot of business to be done within the next two or three weeks”. Time for the DoF to get the coffee percolating!☕️👍

For one would Charlton have that sort of money to splash out on a young centre half and secondly I cant see that he is worth that sort of money in the current transfer market. I would guess top wack 200 k !

I agree that £750k is likely pure speculation but personally, if we got £300k for Kyprianou a couple of years back then I would think Charlton would be paying at least that. As is common though nowadays I suspect the fee will be “ undisclosed “ so we’ll all be left guessing.👍

Yes they have the money and last season signed Coventry from West Ham for a reported combined deal of £1m.
Their new owners have been splashing the cash. Think of the player they’ve signed from Luton, he’s going to be on top dollars. I know the manager is on close to a million a season, he is under pressure to deliver or he will be gone. They are losing a substantial amount of money, last accounts circa £10m and looking at the behaviours can’t see that improving anytime soon. They want to get back to the championship next season and ultimately back to the premier league asap.
In closing I would have thought the £750k is transfer fee, appearances fee, success fee, sell on fee all combined to make the max they will pay Millwall over time, certainly not a one off payment as such.

Nigel says, expect activity in the next couple of weeks regarding being players in. It would really help if Sotiriou and James could decide if they are going to move on, or sign for the club again.
It's been ages now since they had a contract offer.

As to how much Charlton paid for Mitchell, we can only but guess as unlike years ago transfer fees are nowadays rarely made public, often described as ''undisclosed fee''. So different to years ago when Jimmy Greaves left Chelsea in 1961 to join AC Milan for £80,000 and after getting homesick and wanting to come back home, he got a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £99,999 !!
''for a sum of £99,999, a fee decided upon by Nicholson as a way of relieving Greaves of the extra pressure in becoming the country’s first-ever £100,000 signing''

DR the reason that all transfers in the EFL are undisclosed is so that the club who receives the funds can't be taken advantage of as suddenly they have x amount to theoretically spend. Its an attempt to keep the money in the club without fees being artificially being inflated, like we see in the Premier league.
