Good shout DH just need the lottery to invest deeper in to the sports and get more opportunities for more medals. I’m not being funny, but the size of our population compared the yanks and Chinese and we are literally streaks ahead. Keep investing, keep on giving opportunities and we will keep on improving.

The LA handover bit in the closing ceremony reminded me of half time at the Superb Owl. And Billie Eilish and Snoop Dog can’t mime.

I’ve dipped in and out but not bothered too much. Too many issues starting with the opening ceremony, events, accommodation and now it seems the closing ceremony. Not a particularly well planned and executed event. Plus controversial. An Olympics that will not live long in the memory.
Hope the Paralympics is better.

And a “not too sure” category.

I did not bother to watch the opening event or closing even, not that interesting to me.
Highlight for myself was Team GB's Keely Hodgkinson winning the women's 800m gold. Being as I used to play table tennis for my firm in the local Harlow table tennis league, I enjoyed watching some of the Olympic Table Tennis competition, both men and women's competitions which were in the main dominated by China, Japan, Korea etc plus Sweden did well in the mens competition and German ladies came 4th in the team event. All showed amazing skill and fitness. One very exciting football match I watched was the Ladies semi final match Spain V Brazil where Brazil, despite fielding a patched up side managed to beat the all conquering Spanish team 4-2.

Just read that the bronze medals are tarnishing and chipping. The Paris Committee has promised to investigate quality control at the makers and to replace those affected ones in due course. 🥉🥉🥉
After years of training I’d hope the medal lasts more than a fortnight.

And a “not too sure” category. After all the controversy in the boxing event, why not have events ( not necessarily Olympic events ) for those unfortunate people, ( quite often transexual women ) who wish to compete in sport events but who's male testosterone level rule them out of competing fairly against other women ? Some of these people are people who have undergone so called sex changes ( if that is REALLY possible ? ) or women like the South African middle distance runner Caster Semenya who won two Olympic gold medals and three World Championships in the women's 800 metres race. She was later found to have testosterone levels in the typical male range. In 2019, new IAAF (World Athletics) rules came into force for athletes like Semenya with certain disorders of sex development (DSDs) requiring medication to suppress testosterone levels in order to participate in 400m, 800m, and 1500m women's events. Semenya refused to undergo the treatment, which is now mandatory. She has filed a series of legal cases to restore her ability to compete in these events without testosterone suppression, arguing that the World Athletics rules are discriminatory. Surely a way could be found for people who are DIFFERENT to compete in sports they enjoy taking part in without the current stigma of doing so. Years ago of course these women like Caster Semenya played sport and no one knew any different !

Not fair on the other women boxers was it. As to the two finalists Chinese boxer Yang Liu looks like a normal woman but Imane-Khelif does not.

The boxer could so easily put this story to bed by undergoing a simple, independent test. But will not. If the boxer is female then get a simple test proving this then put two fingers up to all the critics, or sue them. But it won’t happen. You have to wonder why.

A reasonable conclusion.
