I think the club's retained list, with Richie's comments - as eca has pointed out - has a bit more weight than Barnsley's twitter account

The word conjecture will always be used on threads like this one. Who can forget back in 1993 when Frank Clark was asked if he was leaving orient for notts forest. He replied "absolute conjecture" then became forest boss hours later!

But he has over performed the budget this season. Barely. Mid table budget and we finished mid table. Upper mid table sure, but still mid table. It’s not exactly Leicester winning the premier league. And I’m not saying this to be negative Lord knows there’s plenty of managers who underachieve on their budget (probably more than who don’t actually I’d reckon), so achieving budgeted results is a valuable skill in itself. But I don’t think Ritchie is a manager who can work miracles on a limited budget like some can. He’s not that type of manager. Another sensible post .

If Lincolns game had not been replayed and orient has been awarded the original three points by extending the match just a few min later that night orient would have finished higher than Wycombe W

Barnsley will probably issue a statement re their new manager very soon - then the answer is there for all of us. Don’t think they are interested in him. If Bolton don’t .get promoted they will probably sack their manager. Rw said after our game against Bolton that if he got the chance to manager them he would get them promoted with their players. Bolton is a few miles from home. I think he is waiting to see what happens.

There a lot of clubs in Lancashire and Yorkshire hopefully RW has got a very nice comfortable company car and he carry on up and down the M1/ M25

Just looked at Barnsley's Twitter acc... it looks grim for us Just had a shufty at Barnsley FC's Twitter (X) feed, couldn't see anything on there referencing any new manager or RW. Perhaps you could post the link to the Tweet we should be concerned about?

Lets talk proper East London language.
If Wellens wants to go he can f*** off.
If he wants to stay he is very welcome.
End off.

All may be revealed this Friday, if RW is at the Barnsley v Bolton game then all the speculation will be over.

So why did Barnsley sack their manager that got them in the playoffs?
That sounds very much like a Salford and Doncaster type barmy way of doing things.
Richie has been burnt by that type of behaviour previously so hopefully he takes stability, growth and a solid grounding over some nutter who sacks successful managers.
The longer the week goes the more hope I feel that Richie will stay. It's Wednesday tomorrow and they have a game on Friday. Surely they would want somebody in place before then.

I don’t see Barnsley as a significant upgrade on Orient. They had one season in the top flight 25 years ago, but they tend to yo yo between second and third tier. In terms of potential, Orient have the capacity to be another Brentford. Barnsley don’t. The next 10-15 years will be spent preparing to become established in the Championship and given Wellens is only 44, surely he would be better off career wise being a part of that. I could understand if he went to Sheffield Wednesday, Birmingham City or Blackburn Rovers who have the support and heritage to be competing for the Championship and making the Premier League but Barnsley are more likely to be playing at Brisbane Road next season.

Barnsley have greater potential. They too will be looking to build over the next 10/15 years like us and to become an established Championship side. But they have a head start having already been there and they don’t have the ball and chain of a ground with small capacity as we do. It will take us years to get to where they are today. We ain’t the only club looking to build. Whether that’s with RW or not remains to be seen but to suggest we have more potential is misguided in my opinion.

Didn't someone say that he was planning to move south this summer? Perhaps to Birmingham? I thought this might be a better option for him if he really wants to leave for a club with a bigger budget. But how long would he last? Frankly I think Orient is his level. And before people think I'm being horrible to our club, what I mean is that we have 8,000 watching each week, we are hoping to establish ourselves as a mid-table League One club for a few years, we've got some exciting young players and we're a positive environment. He's 44, which isn't that young. He's got the opportunity to stay for a while and establish some form. Everyone likes him. He's able to express himself, get sent off several times and slag players and people off on the club interviews and get away with it. He might have "vaulting ambition", but if he's sensible he'll dig in at Brisbane Road and see where it takes him.
